Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
My name is Stefanie, I’m an Ontario Land Paramedic and have been a First Responder Mental Health Advocate for the last 12 years! My father was a police officer for 32 years, so I'm no stranger to the first responder culture.
I graduated with honours from Conestoga College Paramedic Program where I was awarded the, "Mature Student Award" as well as a scholarship from the Tema Conter Memorial Trust in 2007. I was awarded the Conestoga College Alumni of Distinction Award for 2017.
In 2018, I was asked to deliver the convocation speech in June for the Health Sciences Department graduates at Conestoga College.
I am honoured to again to be delivering the 2019 Conestoga College School of Health Sciences convocation message.
In May of 2017, I started the first ever peer support group exclusively for FIRST RESPONDERS in Brantford, ON. Our very own CHAPTER of Wings of Change www.wingsofchange.ca
I am an INTERNATIONAL public speaker and International Bestselling author.
‘Stefanie Speaks’ was created after I spent a number of years advocating and attending mental health events across Canada I realized that more needed to be done.
I continue to feel that I can no longer sit and wait for someone to do something, it is past the time to take action.
I first decided to speak out about my own mental health journey.
My next step was to bring information about mental health to the first responder and front line worker community, AND to their families. This is provided through workshops, special programs, speakers sharing their lived experience or professional expertise, exclusive screenings and educational opportunities.
Recognition and awareness have come a long way but there is still so much more that needs to be done.
